Hurry Up Spring!

So, I wake up in the morning and I'm super warm. I go outside and I am freezing. This winter weather needs to either stop for a while, or just disapper for good. Spring can't come fast enough, especially because once Spring arrives, Springfest comes a lot with it. Springfest is our big event that happens 2nd semester. It includes fun events such as concerts, mechanical bulls, pie throwing contests, scooter races, a car smash, and a delicious cookout. This year, Reel Big Fish is coming to campus! I know right, who isn't excited about that! So, like I said, Spring can't come fast enough.

Guess What! I'm Back!

So, hello....it has been a while, but I promise, I'm back for good.
Life has been good, busy, but good. Second semester has started, and so far, my classes are amazing. That is probably because I haven't had any exams yet.
This will probably be a short post considering I'm busy getting caught up in the Office from being off for an entire month. But, I thought that I would prove one of the many stereotypes of college students wrong....
Many people think college students stay up all night...false. I was asleep by 8:30pm last night. That is right, college students love their sleep too. All nighters don't start to happen until finals, and that is only if you aren't the greatest at time management. Luckily at Ripon, you learn how to manage time well right from the start :)

It's a great day to be a Red Hawk!

Homecoming weekend has come and gone....but we won!!! 30-0, it was a fantastic game! And it was 81 degrees outside...in October! The game was so much fun, and they guys played great. My friend and freshman year roommate Eliza and her fiance Bruce won Homecoming King and Queen, I was so proud :)
After the game and nap was in order...first, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra came to campus and performed, so I had to be rested for that and second, it was so warm outside sleep sounded so wonderful.
Swimming is in full swing, and so far so good. It's hard to believe this will be my last year swimming, which is very sad. This Thursday, during practice we are having an intersquad meet so we can see where we're at and just have fun competing against each other. I'm excited, but I'm not quite sure I'm in shape for competion yet. Our first meet is November 1, so it's coming up quickly.
The construction is still going on here. The road is almost all tore up, so I'm hoping the rest of the project goes quickly before all of the snow comes.
Well, pictures will come soon, I promise!
Back to work for me,
Jess

Welcome October!

Well, the end of the year is quickly sneaking up on us. It's already October! Can you believe that! The road construction on campus has officially started, as of 8am today. It is quite a project. I'm becoming a pro at leaping from the road, over the pile of mud, onto the sidewalk. Almost the entire road is gone already, and they just started!!! It will be nice to see the finished project.
Yesterday was the first day of swimming! I bet you're wondering how it went. Well, I was fast asleep by 8pm last night. I was exhausted. Practice was hard, but I think that with the the team we have this year we are going to be FANTASTIC!!! Our team is huge even compared to last year. Our first meet is November 1st at Lake Forest. So we have one month to get ready, but I know we will!
Next weekend is Homecoming, so preparations are already being made for those festivities. We're even having our own Homecoming Parade!!! I'm very excited, but sad at the same time because this will be my last homecoming, ever.

Alright, well there will be more to come. Keep checking back, I'll be posting pictures soon!

The Cool Air is Rollin' In

Hi there!
I can't believe it is September already! Last week it was still in the 80's. This week, we've been in the 60's. Not cool, not cool at all. Don't get me wrong, I love when it starts cooling down, but a 20 degree difference is a huge one. This last week was Greek Week, it was a lot of fun. All of the sororities and fraternities compete for points in different events such as penny wars, a pageant, scavenger hunts, and many others. September is full of events, this month the date doctor is coming to fix all of our dating dilemmas, well at least he will try. This weekend is our first home football game which means the first time the Ripon Red Hawks can play on our BRAND NEW astro-turf! It should be a lot of fun! This weekend is also Theta Chi's Annual Frisbee Golf event! It's probably one of my favorite weekends.
Alright, well it's back to work for me, but I'll be sure to keep you updated!

A Light...at the end of the first week of classes!

It's hard to believe, but the first week of classes are done! Granted, we only started on Wednesday, three days is enough to remind me about what I missed over the three months of summer...hard work! So far, I like my classes and professors. The social life is starting to pick up around campus too! Tonight we are sponsoring a concert at the village green (one of the mini-parks of downtown where there are concerts each week over the summer) and that will kick off the start of the school year. I've already taken it upon myself to attend every picnic and potluck available. Who can say no to free, delicious, home cooked food? Well, that is all I have, for now at least. Next week we have our student activities fair where all of the organizations on campus are available for students to talk to and sign up for! After that, campus will be a busy place!

Hello, My Name Is...

Okay, so I think I'll start off by saying a little bit about myself. First, my name is Jessica Powell and this year I am a senior- I have mixed feelings about that though. After changing my mind numerous times I have declared a Business major and Psychology minor, so I stay busy with classes. In my free time, I can often be found in the Admission Office working as a Student Ambassador a.k.a tour guide, or working with Amanda Henke, Assistant Director of Admissions. I'm on the swim team here at Ripon, and I absolutely love it. I play in a few of the intramural sports, mostly inter tube water polo and bowling. I also work with SMAC, our student media and activities committee. In SMAC I help plan large events such as Homecoming and Spring Fest, as well as movie nights, comedians, concerts, karaoke nights, and many others. It's a lot of fun. I love to shop, and I do way too much of it. I'm a Cowboy Fan...please don't yell at me, I get enough of that from my Packer fan friends. I'm originally from Berlin, a small town in Wisconsin, only about 20 minutes away from Ripon. But my parents have recently moved up to Greenleaf, Wisconsin, which is between Appleton and Green Bay, so I guess I have 2 hometowns.
If you have any questions about anything, feel free to email me at powellj@ripon.edu
I can answer your questions about the College, the Admission Process, and anything else you can come up with! And be sure to check my blog because I'll give you some inside info about what is really going on around here!!!
